City to Consider Razing Two Abandoned Buildings | |
|
IRONWOOD, MI - Monday, April 14, 2008 - The City Commission will hold a special Public Hearing at 5:15 PM CDT to hear comment on the condemnation of a blighted and abandoned building at 305 Southwest Street in Ironwood. The old Jesseville storefront is owned by Robert Eschbach, of East Lansing, Michigan. At 5:20 PM CDT, this evening, the Commission will hold another Public Hearing to discuss the condemnation of a house at 1100 East Cloverland Drive (across from the Breakwater Restaurant) on US-2, Ironwood. The house is owned by Tilda Niemi. Both structures have major holes in their roofs; they are in very poor repair; and are dangerous. They are both in violation of the City's Blight Ordinance and constitute a public nuisance. The owners of both buildings have been given notices and they will be given an opportunity to bring the structures up to code, if possible. If no action by the owners is taken, the buildings will be condemned and razed, and the building owners will be responsible for the demolition costs and related fees. Action on both of these buildings will be taken during the regular meeting scheduled for 5:30 PM CDT tonight. In addition to the condemnation of these buildings, the Commission is expected to pass a planned unit development ordinance that will allow properties to be zoned with multiple designations.
