Local Horse Jamboree This Week-End

KIMBALL, WI - Wednesday, April 09, 2008 - Area horse lovers have teamed up together to put on the 1st Gogebic-Iron County Horse Jamboree this Saturday at the Kimball Town Hall, just off US 2 in Hurley. The Jamboree is featuring a speaker on equine massage therapy, a used tack and riding apparel sale, a model horse show, model horse swap and more. Doors open to the public at 10:00 AM CDT, with set-up and drop off for tack swap beginning at 9:00 AM. The equine message speaker is scheduled for 11:00 AM. Entries for the model horse show are due by Noon, with judging to start at 12:30 PM. The day's events are expected to end around 2:00 PM.

Looking for a saddle, used tack or maybe a bargain in a pair of riding boots or show apparel? Then you won't want to miss the tack/apparel swap. A local horseman will also be available to `steam' felt cowboy hats. Bring your cowboy hat with you and Jim Taylor will give it a new shape and new life. If you have tack or riding apparel to sell, bring it along. The sale is open to all, with a 10% sales commission charged on sold items. However, larger items such as saddles, horse trailers, or any other higher ticket item selling for more than $200 will pay a flat commission of only $20.

Thinking about a new horse? You might even be able to find your new prospect on Saturday at the Horse Jamboree. No, live horses won't be offered for sale, but several area horse owners will have flyers and even videos of the horses they do have for sale. Stop and talk, or get a phone number for later reference.

If you have never seen a model horse show, come and watch. Model horse shows are popular with everyone, from young girls who love to play with the horses all the way to experienced horse owners and showmen who own models resembling their favorite mounts. The show will have 5 `halter' classes and 5 `performance' classes, and will be judged by area professional horseman Doreen Passuello. Passuello has judged the Nationally sanctioned model horse show last fall at the U.P. Equifest in Escanaba and is also a sanctioned judge for regular horse shows.  Entry fee is $1.00 per class per horse and horses may be entered in more than one class if eligible. A trophy and 5 ribbons will be awarded per class. For complete class list or rules call 932-4739 or stop by Stoffel's Country Store.

Model horses, tack and accessories will also be offered for sale on Saturday. This swap is also open to the public, to consign model sale items or to buy. Proceeds from the day's swaps, horse show and concessions will go to Gogebic County and Iron County 4-H Horse Clubs.

Food concessions will also be offered throughout the day so plan to make it a day and attend the Gogebic-Iron County Horse Jamboree on Saturday. See you there, pardner!
