Ironwood Township Board Concerned Over Wal-Mart Intersection

IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP, MI - Wednesday, April 16, 2008 - The Charter Township Board of Trustees met in regular session on Monday, April 14, 2008. The group quickly dispensed the many items on their agenda. The communications section of the Agenda is what brought most of the afternoon's discussion.

The trustees had received a letter from the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) regarding the U.S. 2 and Country Club Road intersection now know as the Wal-Mart Intersection. The details of the letter were not disclosed. However, it was noted that there has already been two accidents at the site.

Two letters were received from the Ironwood Public Library. The township has made an offer to the library group. The library board did not respond to the offer in a timely fashion, so that it might be be acted upon at the Township Meeting. There was a great deal of discussion by the trustees and the audience on this matter. The center of the subject is the difference in fees charged to Erwin and Ironwood Townships. While Erwin pays the library just a few hundred dollars for use of the library by its constituents, Ironwood Township is charged a millage, approximately $15,000 plus their penal Fines which were $20,000 in the last fiscal year. Some trustees felt that the failure of the library group to respond in a timely fashion resulted in the expiration of the offer. The trustees said they will wait to hear the outcome of Tuesday's meeting of the library board.

In new business the trustees discussed bids on scrap pickup, a burn permit requested for Beagle Club Road.

Also discussed was a complaint from Marvin Marks pertaining to a blight situation near his township property. The trustees asked Supervisor Rick Estola to reinspect the property in question.

Tom Schneller requested a refund of an unused building permit fee. He has recently purchased a new up dated permit for the same property. The refund was approved.

Mentioned under old business: Personnel Policy change - only one page has been changed No other changes were made.
