Silver Street Shootout 8-Ball Pool Tournament Date Set

HURLEY, WI - Thursday, April 24, 2008 - The 9th Annual Silver Street Shootout is scheduled to take place on Friday-Sunday, May 16-18, 2008. A singles 9-ball tournament will start off the competition on Friday, May 16, 2008. Play will begin at 7:00 PM.

The Silver Street Shootout is a team 8-ball event featuring four players per team. Each player shoots in order according to a schedule provided by the tournament director. Players shoot as singles. The game they will be playing is the International Billiard Congress of America (BCA) 8-ball Rules. In BCA 8-ball, the table is always open immediately following the break. The shooter must legally pocket either a striped or a solid ball to determine which group he has for the remainder of the game. On all shots, players are first,  required to contact one of their object balls with the cue ball, and then either pocket a ball or force an object ball or cue ball to a rail. Failure to do so gives the incoming player "ball in hand" meaning he may place the cue ball anywhere on the table. The first team to win seven games in a match advances to the next round. Since this is a double elimination tournament all teams must lose two matches to be eliminated.

The entry fee for the tournament is $100 per team ($25 per player). 100% of the entry fees, along with an added 20% of the entry fees will be given back as prizes. All matches will be played on Valley coin tables, and all tables are within walking distance along Silver Street.

Teams are urged to pre-register. Pre-registration can be done up until Friday, May 16, 2008, at 10:00 PM CST. The Shootout will begin at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 17, 2008. To pre-register contact Spider's Bar at (715) 561-5176, after 5:00 PM, or you can contact Mike Fontecchio (Tournament Director) at (715) 562-2772.

For motel, restaurant, and entertainment information right on Silver Street, contact the Hurley Chamber of Commerce at (715) 561-4334. Hurley would love to see this event grow with the capability of handling 100 teams in the future. With your help, the event could become the largest team 8-ball tournament anywhere. Where else can you find more than twenty bars on a little over 1/4 mile street in a city of less than 2000 people?
