Late Season Storm Hits Gogebic Range

IRONWOOD, MI - Tuesday, March 01, 2008 - Mother Nature played a cruel April Fool's Day joke on local residents last night and early this morning. Over nine inches of heavy, wet snow blanketed the Gogebic Range in the past twenty-four hours. Other parts of the Upper Peninsula were hit even harder.

Just yesterday, the roads were bare and people were driving on dry pavement. Late storms have become a tradition in the past several years. What they say about the weather here is right. If you don't like the weather today -- wait an hour or so. Many people move to the Ironwood area because the like the change of seasons. Few places in the country have four distinct seasons like the U.P. offers. Very few have four seasons all in one day!

As always, City crews did a great job clearing the streets. Many towns south of us would be crippled by much less snow -- but for us -- it's business as usual.
