IPSD Officers' Salaries In the Lower 25% of National Average

IRONWOOD, MI - Saturday, August 02, 2008 - Ironwood Public Safety Department (IPSD) Officer salaries, compared to the national average for police officers, are all in the lower 25 percentile. The average IPSD salary is $34,940, well below the $44,000 national average. Nationally, the median police salary is $48,254.

This information doesn't take into account that Ironwood's police officers are also cross-trained as firefighters.

In addition, IPSD salaries, when adjusted for differences in population and the special training the IPSD officers have undergone, are the lowest in the entire Upper Peninsula. Meanwhile, Ironwood has one of the lowest crime ratings in the country. This doesn't mean that crime doesn't happen here. It means the IPSD is doing an exceptional job maintaining the peace.
