City Finds Unique Way to Kill Two Birds With One Stone

IRONWOOD, MI - Saturday, August 02, 2008 - It appears that the City of Ironwood has come up with a unique solution to two of its biggest problems -- potholes and blight.

The new "Shingle-A-Pothole" program is now underway. The new program encourages citizens to rid their yards of old asphalt singles by using them to fill potholes throughout the City. Citizens who fill potholes with shingles are urged to take photographs of their handy-work and bring them, along with a signed, written description of the location where the shingles were dumped, to the City Manager at the Memorial Building. A special property tax adjustment will be issued for each pot hole filled, provided there is proper documentation.

To the chagrin of local tire dealers, citizens are urged to remove all roofing nails from the singles.

Notice on the second picture how the grass along the side of the road is over eight inches tall. Isn't that blight? It looks terrible!
