Volunteers Build Scorekeepers Booth at Randa

IRONWOOD, MI - Sunday, August 24, 2008 - The old scorekeepers/announcers platform at Randa field had seen better days. The simple platform was dilapidated and provided no protection for the scorekeepers from the harsh sun. It was resting on blocks; it was unstable; and the structure was no longer usable.

Just as in days-gone-by, in the old-time barn-raising fashion, volunteers got together -- working as a community -- and built a new booth. Volunteering their time and energy were Ryan Neimi (Nemo Construction); Brian Orr (ORI Construction); Trolla Construction; Keith Johnson; Neil Corcoran; Will Corocoran; Mike Corcoran (who happened to be in town from St. Louis); Tim Zak; Angelo Immone; Chuck Lewis, Sr.; Ricky Bastman; and others.

Neil Corcoran, who's in charge of Ironwood's Parks and Recreation, found the funds in his budget to pay for the materials. The cost of the project was under $1,000. Thanks to the volunteer efforts of those involved, Randa Field got a much needed, upgraded, scorekeepers booth and the City of Ironwood got a needed improvement made at a bargain price.
