Successful Work Bee First Step In Creating Hiking Trail

IRONWOOD, MI - Sunday, August 03, 2008 - A small group of dedicated volunteers gathered together at 10:00 AM yesterday to start brush cutting a new hiking trail beginning at the back end of the cemetery.

Spearheading the effort is Sam Davey, member of the Recreation/Cultural/Enrichment Committee. The new hiking trail system ties into several existing trails and railroad grades and plans are in place to expand the system in the future.

The hiking trail is meant to be a typical walking path, and is not meant to be anything fancy. No City money is being spent to fund the trail. Work is done by volunteers and any expenses are donated. Downtown Ironwood is unique in the fact that there is so much natural beauty within walking distance of its business district.

For those that love nature and love to hike, this new trail will be the perfect fit. For more information or a map of the trail system contact Community Development Director Dan Petersen at the Memorial Building (906) 932-5050.
