Fire Damage Severe to Marquette Street Home | |
|
IRONWOOD, MI - Saturday, February 16, 2008 - Fire severely damaged a residence at 334 South Marquette Street, Friday. Twenty-one firefighters from the Ironwood Public Safety Department and the Ironwood Volunteer Fire Department responded to the initial 8:30 PM call. The Hurley Fire Department was also on the scene for mutual aid, and the Ironwood Red Cross was on hand with warm beverages. According to IPSD Sergeant Ron Carpenedo, a second call was made at about 4:00 AM. "The fire rekindled in the north wall." Volunteer Fire Chief Ken Jacobson said, "There was some minor frostbite, but nobody was seriously injured. Thankfully, there wasn't a strong wind last night." The resident wasn't home at the time of the fire, but according to Jacobson, he arrived shortly thereafter. The homes on Marquette Street are relatively close to one another, but the IPSD and the IVFD did a great job containing the fire. An official report is expected to be released Monday, and we will pass along any new information as it becomes available. Related Story Jim Albert |
