Is There a Menards In Ironwood's Future?

IRONWOOD, MI - Saturday, February 16, 2008 - Rumors abound that Menards has purchased land east of the soon-to-open Wal-Mart Supercenter on Country Club Road in Ironwood Township.

The Chronicle made an effort to verify the rumors. We called Menards Corporate Headquarters in Eau Claire, Wisconsin and spoke with Jeff Abbott, the Director of Marketing and Advertising. Mr. Abbott said "There are no plans to build anywhere in the U.P. in 2008 or 2009. The only exception to that statement is the store in Escanaba will be reconstructed and expanded."

Real Estate Specialist for Menards, Marv Prochaska neither confimed or denied the rumors, however. He told the Chronicle, "I'm sorry, I really don't have anything to release at this point -- nothing to comment on!"
