Polar Bear Mites Win Double Header
IRONWOOD, MI - Monday, February 25, 2008 - The Polar Bear Mite team, ages 8 and under, won two games this weekend. The Bears defeated Eagle River 6-1 and 10-1. Scoring for the Bears in game 1 were Nathan Garnell, 3 goals (hattrick) and 1 assist. Gavin Mattson added two more goals along with an assist. Sydnee Lorenson scored once and had one assist. Tommy Lundin had two assists and Hunter Ryan had an assist. Ethan Roehm had two saves in the net for the Bears. Brady Snedden scored for Eagle River. Eagle River's goalie faced 39 shots from the Bears and stopped 33 of them. In Game two the Bears picked up where they left off. Ethan Roehm scored three times (hattrick), Matthew Clemens scored twice and added three assists (playmaker). Tyler Morrison scored once and added an assist. Ross Peterson, Brett Heil, Tommy Lundin, and Gavin Mattson each scored in the third period. Mattson added 3 assists (playmaker). Nathan Garnell had two assists in the game as well. Hunter Ryan got the win in the Polar Bear net. He stopped two of three shots. The one goal came on a penalty shot in the third period where Eagle River's Noah Miller put the puck in high on the stick side for the lone goal. Eagle River's goalie was busy all game facing a total of 53 shots, while stopping 43 of them. C.J. Sorenson and Mitch Hissa both had strong defensive games for the Bears. The Polar Bear Mite team is sponsored by the Ironwood Police Officers Association. The Mites travel to Marquette's Lake View Arena next weekend for an 8 team tournament.
