Absentee Ballots Due Monday

IRONWOOD, MICHIGAN - Friday, January 11, 2008 - Connie Templer from the Ironwood City Clerk's office told the Chronicle today that Absentee Ballots for Tuesday's Primary Election must be returned to the City by Monday, January 14, 2008. She stated, however, that the City Clerk's office will be open from 8:00 AM until 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 12, 2008 for anyone wishing to pick up an Absentee Ballot. If a ballot is picked up on Saturday, it must be returned to the City Clerk's office by Monday. She said that the completed ballots can be placed in the Water Department's payment box over the weekend if necessary.

Absentee ballots are available for citizens that: will be absent from their community on election day; are physically unable to attend the polls without assistance; cannot attend the polls because of tenets of their religion; have been appointed an election precinct inspector in a precinct other than the one in which they reside; are 60 years of age or older; or cannot vote because they are jailed and are awaiting an arraignment or trial.
