Advisory: Bitter Cold and 3" to 5" of Snow

IRONWOOD, MI - Tuesday, January 29, 2008 - According to an 11:30 AM CST statement by the National Weather Service in Marquette, " A Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect until 6:00 AM CST Wednesday, January 30, 2008. A wind chill watch remains in effect from late tonight through Wednesday morning."
"Expect areas of freezing drizzle to cause slippery travel this afternoon... before changing to snow by evening. Use caution if driving this afternoon." the report continues.
"Snow will briefly become heavy at times around the evening commute when 1 to 2 inches of snow may fall per hour creating dangerous travel. The snow is expected to taper to snow showers overnight. By Wednesday morning, 3 to 5 inches of snow can be
expected. West winds gusting to 35 mph will produce blowing snow and reduced visibilities. The strong winds will also lead to bitter cold wind chills as low as 35 below to 40 below zero late tonight into Wednesday morning."
A Winter Weather Advisory means that snow, strong winds and blowing snow, along with low wind chills are expected. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.
A wind chill watch means the there is the potential for a combination of very cold air and strong winds to create dangerously low wind chill values. Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates on this situation.
