According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, "A lake effect snow warning remains in effect until 7 PM EST /6 PM CST/ Monday. Lake effect snow will become heavy at times this evening and continue through Monday... as north winds bring colder air across Lake Superior. Snowfall rates may exceed an inch per hour at times through Monday morning. Snow will diminish by Monday evening. Some blowing snow may occur in open areas near Lake Superior Monday. Expect snow accumulations from tonight through late Monday to exceed 10 inches over the higher terrain from around Ironwood to The Porcupine mountains. Lighter accumulations of 2 to locally 6 inches will occur tonight through Monday south and east of Rockland... Ewen and Marenisco. A lake effect snow warning means significant amounts of lake effect snow are forecast that will make travel very hazardous or impossible. Lake effect snow showers will likely be intense enough to drop 1 to several inches of snow per hour for several hours. Visibilities vary greatly and can drop to zero within minutes. If you must travel... especially tonight and Monday... keep an extra flashlight... food... and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency." Jim Albert |
