Crews Clear City Streets As More Snow Is Expected

IRONWOOD, MI - Thursday, January 17, 2008 - Early this morning City crews continued to clean up the downtown. They are doing such a good job, we might have a hard time convincing visitors to the area that we even get snow here! Crews have been hard at work cutting banks and hauling snow throughout the City, and there is more snow in the forecast.

Snow is very likely this morning and this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service, Marquette, Michigan, with a 80% chance of precipitation. Snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are likely. Highs are expected to be between 18 to 23 degrees with northwest winds of 5 to 10 miles per hour.

Tonight, snow is expected to continue, with heavier accumulations mainly in the evening. Snow accumulations or 1 to 2 inches are expected. Tonight should be cloudy with lows temperatures of zero to 5 degrees above zero inland to around 10 degrees above at the shore. West winds 5 to 15 mph. Chance of snow is 90 percent. Wind chill readings could reach 6 below to 16 below zero this evening.

Friday's morning and afternoon forecast also calls for snow showers with areas of blowing snow. Snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches are possible. High temperatures are expected to be 8 to 13 degrees above zero, Friday morning, falling into the single digits in the afternoon. West winds of 5 to 15 mph becoming northwest 10 to 15 mph are likely. Chance of precipitation Friday is 80%. Wind chill readings of 9 below to 19 below zero are possible as the wind changes direction.

Areas of blowing snow should be expected in the evening, Friday. Snow showers are likely mainly in the evening. Low temperatures of 6 degrees below to 11 degrees below zero are expected inland to around 3 degrees below zero at the shore. The wind will be out of the west with gusts of 10 to 15 mph. Chance of snow Friday evening is 80 percent. Wind chill readings could dip down to between 20 below and 30 below zero.

More cold weather should be expected on Saturday morning and afternoon, with snow showers likely. Areas of blowing snow are also expected. The skies will be mostly cloudy with high temperatures of 3 below to 2 above. Northwest winds 10 to 15 mph are predicted. And the chance of snow Saturday is 70 percent. Wind chill readings should be between 20 below to 30 below zero.
