"Greetings,
I have read a lot of your posts. I really do stand amazed.
Because of my work, as one who is involved directly with the steel mine exploration and development industry, I am a newbie to the Gogebic Range area.
Forgive me if I am wrong, but it sounds like your local economy, has beat you folks down so much, it is now really hard for you to see, and believe, what is actually happening to your very beautiful area.
Let us put it into a different light. What if you knew, that just a few miles away from your very fine town, of Ironwood, lies underneath the ground, one of the nations largest oil reserves, and because of sky rocketing oil prices, oil companies are now highly motivated, to develop those oil reserves?
What would drive, one of the nations largest retailers to open not one, but two, of their mega stores, in an area, that for the most part, has almost zero population growth, and very little if any current development. [Walmart - Ashland & Ironwood]
Of course, what would also motivate another large national retailer to follow suit behind Walmart? [Walgreen]
To be sure, these mega-retailers have not become national leaders in their respective industries, by not doing their research.
Rather, supported by well researched current and future market and demographic trends, position their developments, for maximum profitability.
This is why they are national retailers.
Have you ever seen, or heard of, either a Walmart or Walgreen, closing a store, anywhere?
I haven't. This is not Kmart.
Incidentally, My colleagues, tell me that Menards and Kohls, and many others, will soon be following behind Walmart and Walgreens too.
At this point, I see no reason, why they would not.
Simply, these mega-retailers know that like oil, steel, is a very hot commodity, and given the soaring demand of emerging markets, like China and India, prices of steel, like oil, will only continue a significant upwards trend, and make mining of steel, which was once not profitable, once again, very, very, profitable.
The below articles of just a few, of the many, which would give the common folk, some insights, and reasons to believe, in what good is laying ahead for them, in terms of job creations, more major retailers following behind Walmart and Walgreens, significant real estate appreciation, etc, etc.
Cheers,
JM
