Blight Committee to Meet Monday Evening
IRONWOOD, MI - Sunday, July 20, 2008 - The Ironwood Blight Review Ordinance Committee (BROC) is scheduled to meet at 5:30 PM Monday. The BROC was originally created back on April 10, 2006, as a result of numerous complaints from City residents. Among the vocal residents was current City Commissioner Tom Laabs. At the time, the City Commission was made up of John Cain, John Kasieta, Cliff Koivisto, Tom Yelich and Mayor Bruce Noren. After hearing an abundance of complaints on a Leonard Street property (and others) the Commission decided it was time to readdress the City's out-dated blight ordinance. The idea was to upgrade the ordinance and give it some "bite." On May 08, 2006, Mayor Bruce Noren originally appointed Tom Laabs, Jim Sommerville, Ruth Fus, Bonnie DeFelice, and Suzanne Toth to the newly formed BROC. On Monday, the Committee is expected to review the changes made to the ordinance and evaluate their effectiveness. They are also expected to discuss possible changes that could improve the ordinance and its enforcement. The meeting will be held on the second floor of the Memorial Building, more than likely in the Women's Club Room. |
