Hurley Tavern Gets Face-Lift & Is Soon to Expand

HURLEY, WI - Sunday, July 13, 2008 - Spider's Sports Bar in Hurley is getting a new face-lift. The front of the bar will soon be getting new windows; a new entry door; new siding and new signage.

Mike Fontecchio, owner of the tavern, said he wanted to spruce up the outside of his business to match the recently upgraded Silver Street. Fontecchio told the Chronicle that future plans include an addition at the rear of the east side of the building as well as a "beer garden" deck in the front. He said food service is in the long term plans as well.

Hurley's Silver Street recently had a major make-over thanks to Wisconsin grant initiatives. New streets; sidewalks; lights; banners; signs; benches and flower planters have given the historic street a vibrant new look. Many local businesses have taken steps to improve their properties since the make-over. Visitors to Hurley's Silver Street are left with a very favorable impression of the community. Hurley looks alive and thriving.

Fontecchio has worked hard to develop the former Range/Minnow's tavern into a Silver Street hot spot, and he continues to do all he can to improve his establishment for the benefit of his customers. Cory Bergquist has been helping Fontecchio with the improvements.

During the demolition of the old facade, Bergquist discovered that old transom windows were covered up at some point. The windows were very old, and the glass -- although broken -- was quite interesting. Newly constructed, well insulated, front facade walls along with new high efficiency windows should make the tavern more cozy. Heating and cooling bills will reflect the improvements as well.

Anyone that knows Mike Fontecchio knows that the improvements will continue. And any one that knows Cory Bergquist, and is familiar with his work, knows that the job will be done right.
