Dumping Continues East of Ironwood's Little League Field

IRONWOOD, MI - Thursday, June 19, 2008 - Illegal dumping continues east of the Little League Field in Ironwood. The photos above show discarded cans, household waste, what appears to be a tent or canvas and even a cast iron tub.

Ironically, dumping of waste metals appears to be at an all-time high volume, at a time when metal dealers are paying top dollar for scrap metals. Why would anybody dump off a cast iron tub out in the woods when they could get cash for it by disposing of it properly?

The City needs to address illegal dumping, and will, more than likely discuss this issue at the next Commission meeting. Any efforts to improve the appearance of the City are for nothing as long as people treat our public lands like private dumpsites. The IPSD routinely examines dumped items and often finds out who is responsible for the littering.
