Wintery Rain/Snow Mix Expected This Afternoon & Tonight

IRONWOOD, MI - Sunday, March 02, 2008 - According to a 3:43
AM CST National Weather Service Special Weather Statement, there will be
a wintry mix of precipitation expected late today and tonight.
The
National Weather Service in Marquette warns that warm air and moisture ahead of
a cold front in the plains will begin to produce rain over much of west and
central Upper Michigan late today into this evening. As the cold front sweeps
through, expect the rain to change over to snow from Ironwood to Houghton
by midnight and from Marquette to Newberry after midnight. Since temperatures
have been cold recently, the rain could result in some icing on untreated
surfaces. Once the rain changes to snow late tonight, a quick 1 to 4 inches of
snow could accumulate by daybreak on Monday, especially east of Marquette
and Iron Mountain.
Exact amounts of snow and ice and timing of the change
over to snow with this system are uncertain. An advisory may need to be issued
later today. Stay tuned for later forecasts and statements issued by the
National Weather Service in Marquette.
