Click It or Ticket Troopers Are Out in Full Force

IRONWOOD, MI - Tuesday, May 20, 2008 - Michigan State Police troopers were out in full force yesterday to kick of the All-American Buckle Up Week, and Michigan's Click It or Ticket campaign. Ironwood motorists who weren't wearing their seat beats were immediately pulled over and given a nice hefty reminder to buckle up. The Click It or Ticket campaign will continue through June 1st.

EDITORIAL: Naturally, giving visiting motorists a friendly reminder instead of a whopping ticket wouldn't be effective. The huge fine that is attached to the ticket leads me to believe that the Click It or Ticket campaign is more about making money for the State than it is about saving lives. Let's face it, if your car can make an irritating noise every time you attempt to drive without your seat belt, they could easily make your car inoperable until you buckle up. The same is true with speed limits. The State needs people to speed. They aren't pulling people over because they are concerned for their welfare. They are pulling people over so they can tap into their wallets. With today's technology, don't you think automakers could easily install governors that regulated your speed so you couldn't speed? Every speed limit sign could send a "speed signal" to the governor telling it what the maximum speed can be for that zone.

Click It or Ticket is a prime way to destroy the meager tourist trade Michigan has left. Nothing makes a place more inviting than being slapped with an enormous fine the minute you arrive!
