Gogebic County Holds Comprehensive Plan Workshop
IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP, MI - Thursday, May 08, 2008 - On Wednesday, May 07, 2008, at 5:00 PM, Planner Kelly Drake and Landscape Architect Bill Sanders, ASLA, both from U.P. Engineers and Architects, 102 Washington Street, Marquette, Michigan, hosted a Gogebic County Comprehensive Plan Community Workshop in the lunch room at the Gogebic Community College. The general public was invited to this workshop which was designed to determine the obstacles and opportunities to success for each of the Gogebic County communities. Represented at the meeting were the City of Ironwood, the City of Wakefield, City of Bessemer, the City of Marenisco, Bessemer Township, and Wakefield Township. Each community worked together to determine their own strengths and weaknesses. Not surprisingly, each community had pretty much the same goals; they same problems; and the same attitudes. Representatives of each group addressed the crowd and shared their ideas. Every attendee the Chronicle spoke with believed last night's meeting was beneficial and helpful. Each group ended the session by identifying trail locations, local landmarks and destinations and possible "big box" retail locations for communities. A summary of the January 24, 2008 Workshop can be found under "Helpful Hints" in our Table of Contents. Jim Albert |
