Fuel Spill At Wal-Mart Quickly and Safely Corrected
IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP, MI - Wednesday, November 05, 2008 - There was a gasoline spill in the Wal-Mart parking lot Monday afternoon. The Ironwood Volunteer Fire Department responded to a 1:35 PM fire call to the Wal-Mart building on Country Club Road in Ironwood Township. Gasoline was badly leaking from a vehicle parked in the lot. A wrecker was summoned to remove the vehicle. Wal-Mart employees had already isolated the area and were ready to begin clean-up procedures when the fire truck arrived on the scene. "I wanted to comment on the good job done by the Wal-Mart staff at the fuel spill today. Before we arrived on scene they had already cordoned off the entire area, restricted access to it and directed traffic away from the scene. In addition they supplied us with material from their own auto center to contain the spill, clean it up and dispose of it in an environmentally safe manner. Well done and thank you to all involved!" Ironwood Volunteer Fire Department Chief Ken Jacobson said. Wal-Mart employee Robin Schnieder did a phenominal job cleaning up the spill and securing the area. The Ironwood Public Safety Department and Jim Loeper both arrived on the scene to offer assistance as well. |
