Two Wakefield Men Arrested on Felony Drug & Other Charges

BESSEMER, MI - Friday, October 31, 2008 - Franklin L. Raymond, Jr. was arraigned Monday in Gogebic County’s 98th District Court on a five count felony warrant as a result of a lengthy investigation by the Gogebic – Iron Area Narcotics Team (G.I.A.N.T.). Raymond is currently being held on three counts of delivery of a schedule 2 drug (Morphine), possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and felon in possession of a firearm. Raymond was also given notice as a 4th offense habitual offender. Upon conviction, Raymond could serve a sentence of up to life in prison.

A search warrant was executed on the suspect’s residence Monday morning. The Gogebic – Iron Rapid Response Team was deployed to initiate the warrant service due to information involving the possession of firearms by the suspect. As a result of the search warrant, officers seized firearms, cash, and drugs. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

Raymond is currently scheduled for a November 11th preliminary examination.

A 21 year old Wakefield man is also in custody today facing thee felony counts of delivery of marijuana. The Gogebic – Iron Area Narcotics Team (G.I.A.N.T.) officers took Charles Watts into custody as a result of their investigation stretching back to last February. Watts could face up to four years in prison and a $20,000 fine on each of the three counts.

The suspect remains in custody on a $200,000 bond subject to the 10% rule. He faces a November 3rd preliminary examination.
