The Good, The Bad & The Ugly
LAKE SUPERIOR - Tuesday, October 21, 2008 - A regular contributor to the Chronicle submitted these photos this morning. They were taken at the mouth of the Montreal as our photographer was out fishing. As he pointed out in the text that accompanied these photos, it is a classic case of "The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly!" The Good - There isn't a place on earth that is more beautiful than Lake Superior. And when you are fortunate enough to see a rainbow over the Lake, you are doubly blessed. The Bad - Fishing wasn't the best. Water levels are too low. We could use some rain. The Ugly - (Here's where I have a very difficult time being objective.) Why on earth would anyone think it is okay to dump their beer cans, their cigarette wrappers, or their snuff boxes in the wilderness? I think the fines for littering like this should be extremely severe. How lazy do you have to be? You can carry full cans of beer into the woods, but you can't carry empty, lightweight garbage out? What ever happened to love and respect for the land? We are blessed by being allowed to live in one of the most beautiful places on earth. When are people going to learn to appreciate what we have? I am now stepping down from my soapbox. Please forgive me! |
