Is Winter On The Way?
IRONWOOD, MI - Saturday, October 25, 2008 - A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from Sunday afternoon through Monday evening.
Expect lake effect snow showers mixed with rain... especially over the lower terrain near Lake Superior... to increase in intensity on Sunday while northwest winds gust as high as 45 mph. The strongest winds are most likely over west facing higher terrain near the Lake Superior shore from Ontonagon to Little Girls Point. As these strong winds push colder air into the upper Great Lakes... the mixed snow and rain showers will change to mainly snow Sunday night and Monday. By sunrise on Monday... there is the potential for 3 to 7 inches of wet snow accumulation. The heaviest snow is most likely over the interior higher terrain from Pelkie to Herman... Watton... Bruce Crossing... and Lake Gogebic. The lesser amounts would accumulate near the Lake Superior shore. As much as 2 to 4 inches of additional snow may accumulate on Monday over the interior higher terrain.
A Winter Storm Watch means there is a potential for significant wet snow accumulation and strong winds that may impact travel and cause power outages. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts.
