Urge Legislators to Oppose HB 6070
HB 6070 Would Diminish 9-1-1 Funding, Put Communities at Risk

ACT NOW! Contact your legislators and ask them to oppose HB 6070 (Mayes, D-Bay City), which would diminish or eliminate 9-1-1 funding in some counties and put communities at risk.

Visit the League's Action Center to send your legislators a letter asking them to oppose HB 6070. The bill would:
  • Take away a county commission's ability to levy a surcharge by resolution, meaning 9-1-1 funding will be diminished or eliminated in counties where a millage cannot be passed.
  • Take away the ability of the voters to choose the amount of surcharge that is best for their communities. It requires the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) to approve every surcharge before the voters have a chance to vote.
  • Allow the MPSC to adjust a surcharge approved by the voters every 12 months. This provision lets the state second-guess the decisions made by voters.
9-1-1 funding is critical to keep our communities safe. Contact your legislator today and ask for opposition to HB 6070!
