Area Horse Lovers Gather for Spring Horse Jamboree Saturday

IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP, MI - Wednesday, April 08, 2009 - Area horse lovers of all ages and interests will have a chance to gather for a Spring Horse Jamboree on Saturday in the Cafeteria Area at the Lindquist Center at Gogebic Community College . The Jamboree sets off spring and summer horse activities for the area and will feature a tack/riding clothes swap, speakers, and model horse show. The event will run from 10:00 AM to approximately 3:00 PM.

Everyone is invited to sell or buy at the tack/clothing swap. A seller’s number will cost $1.00 per seller and allows that seller to consign as many items as he or she wishes. A 10% commission will be charged on all items sold. Doors open at 8:00 AM for persons wishing to bring in consignment items early. Unsold items will need to be picked up by 3:00 PM.

At 11:00 AM, Erin Winkowski of Cedar Creek Photography in Bessemer will present a talk on ‘How to Photograph Horses’. Dr Lisa VandeBerg of Menominee, WI and formerly a veterinarian at Range Animal Hospital in Ironwood, will give her presentation ‘Emergency, When To Call Your Veterinarian’ immediately following.

Judging for the Model Horse Show will begin at Noon. There will be halter, performance, and scene classes for novice and experienced model showmen. Several out-of-town exhibitors are expected as well as many local showmen, women and children. Model showing is becoming a very popular pastime and this show will be one of at least two model shows to be held in the area in 2009. The Gogebic County Fair has also added classes for model horses and animals. Everyone is invited to come out and watch this ‘horse show’. They are lots of fun, VERY educational, and something that every horse lover can participate in, whether they own a horse or not.

A refreshment stand will be open throughout the day with coffee, pop, and snacks as well as lunch. Door prizes for each speaker have been donated by local businesses. Creative Spirits Scrap-booking and Rubber Stamping has donated a scrapbook and pages and Range Animal Hospital is giving away an equine emergency medical kit. These door prizes will be given away during the speaker presentations and winner must be present to win. Tamarack Publishing of Bessemer has donated a winner’s choice of one book from the book series ‘What the Cowgirls Do’ to one lucky winner from the model horse show. All persons entering the horse show will be eligible for this book drawing. Additional door prizes may also be presented throughout the day.

Display tables by non-profit horse organizations are available free of charge. Tables do need to be reserved by Friday 5:00 PM however. Horse related businesses, stables, and other profit entities may purchase a display table for the day for $20.
