13 Candidates Throw Their Hats Into the Ring for City Commission - One Is Disqualified

IRONWOOD, MI - Wednesday, August 12, 2009 - According to City Clerk, Karen Gullan, thirteen candidates have turned in their completed nominating petitions by yesterday's 4:00 PM deadline.

To qualify as a candidate for the Ironwood City Commission each petitioner must be an elector in the City of Ironwood, and must obtain signatures of not less than twenty-five (25) or more than forty (40) registered electors of the City of Ironwood.

Each of the signatures on the nominating petitions will be verified later today.

Four of the five current Commissioners have opted to run for re-election. They are (in alphabetical order): Bob Burchell; Tom Laabs; Gemma Gorrilla Lamb; and Suzanne Toth. Mayor Bruce Noren will not be on the November 3rd ballot.

Assuming their nominating petitions are verified, nine other candidates will also appear on the November 3rd ballot. They are (in alphabetical order): Joseph F. Cayer; Kim S. Corcoran; Louise Demasi; George Goerig; Ken Jacobson; William D. Lucius; Earle G. Sell; Rick Semo; and Ron Taylor.

UPDATE - Wednesday, August 12, 2009 - According to Karen Gullan, City Clerk, Earl G. Sell's nominating petition was disqualified. As of this morning, there are now twelve candidates running for the Ironwood City Commission.
