Ironwood Township Soon to Leave Ironwood Water System

IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP, MI - Friday, August 28, 2009 - Construction along Lake Road in Ironwood Township continues as water mains are being installed. These 16" water mains will eventually supply water from the Gogebic Range Water Authority to the Township. Currently the Township purchases water for the City of Ironwood at a bulk rate. Loss of the both the Township and Hurley as bulk rate customers will force increases in Ironwood water rates to remaining water customers. Costs to the City to pump and treat water will continue to increase, while revenues from these large bulk customers will need to be replaced somewhere.
