Weekly Hikes into Proposed Park

IRONWOOD, MI - Tuesday, August 04, 2009 - The Friends of Miners Memorial Heritage Park would like to invite the public to join us for a weekly evening hike into the mining heritage areas of Ironwood (also known as the "caves area") at 6:00 PM on Thursday evenings. The Friends of Miners Memorial Heritage Park is a new non-profit organization that is committed to creating, promoting and maintaining a new city park in Ironwood that would span the area that in the early years of last century contained at least five iron mines. The organization would like to create paths for hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing within this area that is currently city-owned land. In addition, the Friends of MMHP plan on putting up informative signs along trails to tell visitors of the mining history within the park. Interested hikers should meet at the Little League Field in Ironwood (Corner of Day and Vaughn Streets). Hikers should bring water and wear sturdy footwear. Contact Monie at (906) 932-3770 for more information.
