Ironwood Theatre Calls for Volunteers
IRONWOOD, MI - Wednesday, August 19, 2009 - The historic Ironwood Theatre has announced a second call for volunteers to assist in the Theatre’s new phase of development. The next session, for former, current, or prospective volunteers, will begin at 6:00 PM on Monday, August 24. Volunteer Coordinator Jackie Powers conducted a successful informational meeting during a recent open house, but more help is needed in certain areas, she said. Potential volunteers will be given a complete tour of the Theatre prior to the meeting. A volunteer herself, Powers said that the condition of the economy makes it even more important that the public becomes involved in Theatre activities. She noted that the complexity of Theatre operations - from maintenance, to assisting with restoration projects, to helping out in the office, to supporting in-house productions - calls for a large work force. Theatre Facilities Manager Tom Brown, was pleased with financial and other support that has come forth since the open house just over one week ago. Brown stated the Remax real estate group of Ironwood offered to pay for materials to renovate the women’s bathroom on the mezzanine level of the Theatre. They offered to do the work themselves under Theatre staff supervision. The bathroom has remained untouched since modernization efforts prior to the Theatre’s world premiere showing of the movie "Adventures of a Young Man" in the early 1960s. Brown also announced that a local electrician offered to donate his services to install gallery lighting in the concourse. The special recessed fixtures will cost $3,000 and one-third of the amount has already been pledged, he said. Theatre Managing Director, Phil Kucera, is delighted with all the recent activity. It’s time we complete the master plan for the facility, he said. The vision of the Theatre Board is to create a home for all the arts, for all the residents of the Gogebic Range. Persons seeking more information on volunteer opportunities can contact the Theatre by phoning (906) 932-0618, or stopping in the office at 109 East Aurora Street in Ironwood from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, weekdays. |
