New Mexican Restaurant Coming to Ironwood
IRONWOOD, MI - by Keri Singleton - December 6, 2009 - Ironwood area diners will soon have another choice when they ponder the question, “Where do you want to eat?” 135 Cloverland Drive is the site of a soon-to-be-opened (within two months), authentic Mexican restaurant, owned and operated by the same gentlemen: Jesus Hernandez, and Jose Alvarez, of the El Dorado restaurant fame in Ashland, Wisconsin, some thirty miles west of Ironwood. Jesus Hernandez, one of the owners, assured me that they would be serving the finest authentic Mexican food, including: enchiladas, burritos, chimi-changas, fajitas, tacos, and taco salad. The menu will also feature ten vegetarian dishes, and some American choices, such as a chicken basket with fries, as well as seafood selections. A child’s menu will feature, among other things, cheeseburgers and chicken fingers, as American choices, in addition to the regular selections. The restaurant’s liquor license is in process, assuring that customers can enjoy a Margarita, hugely popular at El Dorado. It is easy to imagine what the building on Cloverland Drove, next to INK RX, will look like in a couple of months. The spacious dining room is sure to be filled to capacity each evening, with locals and visitors alike enjoying authentic Mexican fare. Jesus Hernandez, and his business partner, Jose Alvarez, have owned and operated the El Dorado, located at 2320 Lake Shore Dr. W., Ashland, WI, for a year this past July 4. Jesus has thirteen years experience in the Mexican restaurant business, while his partner Jose Alvarez, has fifteen years experience. Their combined talents and experience are sure to please diners here in Ironwood for a long time to come, while providing some welcome jobs in the area, as Jesus informed me they will be hiring for some dishwasher and bussing help. Colleen Sachs and Rita Franzoi, of Snow Country Real Estate, were on hand this morning to give the keys to Jesus. When asked if the new restaurant would be called El Dorado also, Jesus replied that they were undecided about the name. Regardless of the name, we welcome Jesus and Jose to Ironwood, and know they will be hugely successful. We thank them for their decision to open here, and know many people near and far will enjoy their authentic Mexican food.
