Friends of the MMHP Announce Final Prep Plans for Jack Frost Float

IRONWOOD, MI - Thursday, December 3, 2009 - The parade is almost here, and we are almost ready. We had some great additions to the headframe last night. Tom DeCarlo, one of our star miners, brought a miniature "cage" he made from a furnace that can actually go up and down our hand-crafted headframe with a pulley system! I encourage everyone to come to the parade to see it.

We have decided to have one more get-together to assemble the float. This evening (Thursday, December 3rd) we are going to meet to put the headframe on the trailer and add the lights. We also have a bit of poster and sign work to finish. We will meet at 6:00 PM at David Suutala's heated garage. To get there from Ironwood, drive west on Highway 2 for about 2.5 miles past the Highway 51/Highway 2 overpass. The driveway is on the left. David's place is 1 mile before the Kimball Inn.

Friday is parade day! If the headframe is not on the trailer, we will need help getting it on the trailer in the morning starting at 10:00 AM at David's. From there, he will drive the float to the driveway of Shackleford's residence at 724 East Sutherland Street to put on signs and add decorations and more lights. To get there from the Lake Street/Ayer Street intersection, go south on Lake Street 1 block, and then turn right on Sutherland. People are welcome to help out in the late morning and afternoon. At 5:00 PM, the float will be in line for the parade. The line-up location for our float is on Marquette Street between the Catholic Church and All Saints Catholic Academy (Section 3, position 2). We would like as many people dressed as miners to come to the line-up by 5:45 PM. We have two authenic miners of the area who will ride on the float and about five confirmed people dressed as miners walking. Men and women of all ages are welcome to join us!
