Indianhead Celebrates 50 Years, Opens for the Season
WAKEFIELD, MI - Friday, December 18, 2009 - Indianhead Mountain Resort will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary during the upcoming ski season which will officially start on Friday, December 11. The resort was discovered by Illinois businessman Jack English. Together with 4 other investors, the investment group was looking to start a Midwest ski resort as an alternative to flying out West. The farm and mountain were purchased from Mary Nelson in 1959. Two t-bars, a rope tow and day lodge were constructed later that year. On November 20, 1959 Indianhead Mountain opened for business. Over the last 50 years, the resort has gone through many changes but has always remained a Midwest favorite for family ski trips. “Literally thousands of people have learned to ski at Indianhead. We see grandparents bringing their children and grandchildren back to Indianhead to share their fond memories,” says General Manager Barry Bolich. “We are grateful that our guests return year after year to enjoy the great skiing here at Indianhead.” Indianhead will celebrate throughout the upcoming season with special events and packages. Visit www.indianheadmtn.com for upcoming information and specials. “Indianhead has received several inches of new snow, with up to a foot forecasted. We are also making snow around the clock to provide the great conditions Indianhead is known for.” Indianhead Mountain Resort is a four-season resort offering 29 downhill skiing slopes, snowboarding and an average of 17 feet of snow per year. The village and resort facilities are located on top of the mountain overlooking the Ottawa National Forest. Indianhead boasts award-winning dining, lodging, live entertainment and full-service conference/banquet facilities. www.indianheadmtn.com. |
