Ottawa Visitor Center To Host Open House

WATERSMEET, MI - Tuesday, December 1, 2009 - The Ottawa Visitor Center, in cooperation with the Ottawa Interpretive Association (OIA), will be hosting an Open House on Tuesday, December 8, 2009, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM (CST). The Ottawa Visitor Center is located at the corner of US Highway 2 and Highway 45 in Watersmeet, Michigan.

During the Open House the public is invited to check out our facilities, including the Bear’s Den Gift Shop, learn about winter recreation opportunities, purchase Christmas Tree permits, and enjoy refreshments provided by the OIA.

“The Forest Service and our partners at the Visitor Center are looking forward to this Open House, as it will allow us to share with the public all the Visitor Center has to offer.” said Lisa Klaus, Ottawa National Forest Public Affairs Officer.

“The Ottawa Visitor Center has recently expanded its services to include the sale of forest product permits, including Christmas Trees. In addition, we have scheduled a Winter Film Series for each Saturday during the next several months and the OIA has been busy expanding its merchandise line at the Bear’s Den Gift Shop. Visitors to the Gift Shop can look forward to some great sales during the Open House, too.”

Klaus stated that all programs are available to the public free of charge and that viewing of videos can be requested at any time during Visitor Center operating hours.

“There’s so much to see and do at the Visitor Center, we hope everyone will come and experience it first hand on December 8.”

The Visitor Center’s operating hours are currently Monday through Saturday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (CST). Winter operating hours will begin after the new year.
