White & Potentially Dangerous Christmas Predicted

MARQUETTE, MI - Friday, December 25, 2009 - The National Weather Service (NWS) in Marquette, Michigan released a statement at 8:00 PM yesterday stating that a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6:00 PM Friday.

* Periods of snow will continue through Friday. While there will be periods of moderate to heavy snow, there will also be periods when little or no precipitation will be occurring. The snow will also mix with sleet and freezing rain at times. Any mixed precipitation will change back to all snow Friday afternoon.

* Expect additional snow accumulations tonight through Friday of 5 to 8 inches. Light ice accumulations are also possible.

* Roads will be snow covered and slippery and, because the snow will be mixed with sleet and freezing rain, travel will be especially hazardous. Shoveling and plowing of the snow will also be difficult.

A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow, sleet, and ice are expected or occurring. This will make travel very hazardous. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
