Polar Bears Girls Team Have 2-0 Weekend

IRONWOOD, MI - Monday, February 2, 2009 - Yesterday, at the Pat O'Donnell Civic Center, the Polar Bear Girls team played Iron River at 10:00 AM and again at 1:00 PM. Playing for the team this year are: #1 Cassie Chiapuzio; #2 Kayla Peters; #3 Meghan Douglas; #4 Tiffany Jarvenpaa; #5 Tiana Hanson; #6 Wendy Hyrkas; #7 Jessica Anderson; #8 Liza Vorderbrug; #10 Michelle Bates; #11 Courtney Alexandroni; #12 Ashley Ludtke; #13 Brittani Williams; #14 Brianne Bastman; #15 Heather Dabb; #17 Jenny Hamberg; #18 Morgan Leinon; #19 Samantha Ofstad; and #28 Lydia Hendricks.

The Polar Bear Girls U-19 team won both of their games at home on Sunday. The girls defeated Iron Mountain 5 - 0 in game one. Michelle Bates #10 scored two goals, Tiffany Jarvenpaa #4, Cassie Chiapuzio #1 and Tiana Hanson #5 each talied goals. Wendy Hyrkas #6, Ashley Ludtke #12 and Jenny Hamberg #17 assisting. The goalie Kayla Peters #3 had her third shut-out of the season.

In game two the girls defeated Iron Mountain by a score of 4 -1 with Lydia Hendricks #28, Wendy Hyrkas #6, Sammy Ofstad #19 and Morgan Leinon #18 scoring for the Polar Bears with assists from Tiana Hanson #5 and Brittani Williams #13.

The Girls will play Park Falls at home on Saturday February 7th and travel to Escanaba on Sunday. On March 5th they will be the first Girls U-19 hockey team to play at the State Tournament from the Gogebic Range. They will play Marquette on Friday March 6th, Captian's from the Livonia area and the Hawks from Walker on the 7th. Wish us Luck!!!
