Polar Bear Girls Struggle This Weekend

IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP, MI - Thursday, February 19, 2009 - The Polar Bear Girls U-19 team lost four games at home this past weekend. In game one on Saturday against Medford, the score was 0 - 2, game two the score was 0-4. The girls played well, but just couldn't get the puck past Medford's goalie. In the first game on Suday against Cumberland Wendy Hyrkas #6 had three goals and two assists. Brianne Bastman #14 and Liza Vorderbrug #8 both had goals. Morgan Leinon #18 and Liza Vorderbrug #8 both had assists. Goal tender Jenny Hamberg #17 had 17 saves on 24 shots. The girls lost 5 - 7.

In game two on Sunday the girls found themselves in penelty trouble early. Wendy Hyrkas, Michelle Bates #10 and Brittani Williams all had one goal. Sammy Ofstad had two assist and Brianne Bastman had one. The girls lost 3 -8.

The Girls are off this weekend and would like to wish the Ironwood Plastics Midgets Team the best of luck in the District Tournament this weekend.
