Go-In’ Forward is Go-In’ Strong

IRONWOOD, MI - Tuesday, February 17, 2009 - The inspiration for creating Go-In’ Forward was author Rebecca Ryan’s visit to Gogebic Community College in October. The group’s vision statement has been in development since the group’s inception in December of 2008, and was revealed at Monday night’s general membership meeting:

“Supporting our area’s next generation through social-networking, education and community involvement.”

The context of “next generation” loosely refers to individuals between the ages of 21 and 40 or those that “think young or feel young at heart.”

Monday night’s general membership meeting resulted in great dialogue and was well attended with over 15 people.  Discussion ensued regarding the group’s organizational structure and it was stated that the group’s current volunteer leaders, Ellen Wyssling, Denise Samples, Marcy Kusz, Kristin Breitenfeldt and Lily Palmer, are seeking motivated individuals to further assist in directing the group.

Many exciting events have been arranged including a tailgate party at Mt. Zion’s “King of the Hill Race” which will run concurrently with Go-In’ Forward’s participation in the Bowl for Kids Sake fundraiser at the Hurley lanes on Saturday February 28th. In addition, Go-In’ Forward members and their families will usher in St. Patrick’s Day (a few days early) at a “GREEN” themed deck party on Saturday, March 14th at the top of Indianhead Ski Area (no skiing or snowboarding required to access the deck)!

Go-In’ Forward has also formed a book club for those interested in reading The Maltese Falcon which is part of the National Endowment of the Arts Big Read initiative through the Wakefield, Bessemer, Ironwood and Hurley public libraries. Copies of the book are free and The Big Read also includes an impressive series of corresponding local events.

Additional information on these Go-In’ Forward events (and more) is available online on our Facebook group page (search “Go-In’ Forward” within Facebook groups) or by email at goin.forward@hotmail.com.
