Recent Warm Weather and Rain Make Lake Superior Treacherous

LAKE SUPERIOR - Thursday, February 12, 2009 - The photos above show the effects the recent warm weather have had at Black River Harbor, Oman's, and Saxon Harbor. Note the erosion under the pavement at Oman's. Even with the ice being out in spots and a general weakness in the ice, fishermen were still out on the ice hoping for their "big catch." The stability of the ice after recent thaw and rain is questionable at best.
