Polar Bear Midgets Have Winning Weekend
IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP, MI - Monday, February 16, 2009 - The Polar Bear Midget Team recorded four consecutive wins over the weekend at the Pat O’Donnell Civic Center in Ironwood. Copper Country’s M&M Powersports Team was defeated twice with scores of 2-1 and 7-3. Kyle Anderson led the offensive effort, recording his first hat trick of the season. On Sunday, the Polar Bears again came to play, dropping Marquette ’s Main Street Pizza team in two straight games 2-0 and 7-0. As net minder, Derek Chavers recorded both shutouts. The Polar Bears are well positioned for the upcoming District 8 tournament this weekend in Negaunee. The winner of that tournament determines which Upper Peninsula team has the honor of playing in the Michigan State Tournament in March. On Wednesday, February 18, the Polar Bear Midgets take on L’Anse High School at the Pat O’Donnell Civic Center. The last time the two teams faced off in L’Anse, the Polar Bears lost 7-4. The young 15-19 year olds are hungry to continue their four-game winning streak as they head into the District 8 Tournament. Wednesday’s game starts at 6:00 PM at the Pat O’Donnell Civic Center. The Polar Bear U19 Girl’s team is requesting a $2.00 gate fee as a fund raiser as they head downstate to play in the State Tournament. In addition to exciting High School hockey action, the Polar Bear Termite team will play an exhibition game between periods and a “Chuck-a-Puck fundraiser will be held. Additionally the club will offer enhanced concessions with a variety of food hot off the grill. Come on down to the Pat on Wednesday night and enjoy fast-paced hockey action on the range!
