Wind Advisory In Effect Until 4:00 PM Today

MARQUETTE, MI - Sunday, February 1, 2009 - The National Weather Service in Marquette has issued a Wind Advisory which is in effect until 4:00 PM CST this afternoon.

Expect west winds of 20 to 35 mph with gusts to 50 mph today. The strongest winds will occur along the Lake Superior shoreline and over west-facing higher terrain areas. Winds will diminish to 15 to 25 mph this evening. In open areas the strong winds will cause brief periods of considerable blowing and drifting snow. Motorists should be alert for rapid changes in visibility and for snow drifts on unplowed roadways.

A Wind Advisory means that wind gusts of at least 45 mph are expected. Winds this strong can make driving difficult especially for high profile vehicles. The strong winds may also lead to downed trees and isolated power outages.
