Water Service Mostly Restored... But Problem Areas Still Exist

IRONWOOD, MI - Sunday, January 11, 2009 - 7:04 AM -  This morning the City issued the following press release regarding the water situation:

The Gogebic County Emergency and boiling water advisory are still in effect for the entire City of Ironwood.

Although water service has been restored to most city residents, problem areas still exist.

Yesterday afternoon, a water break was discovered in the Mt. Zion area of the City. Crews are currently attending to this break. At approximately 8:00 PM last evening, a water main break was discovered near the corner of Superior Street and Midland Avenue. Ironwood Water Department members worked throughout the night and have corrected the break.

Also, water in the Jesseville area of the City has not been restored. This water outage effects some residents.

Residents in other areas of the City who still do not have water may come or call the Emergency Operations Center at the Ironwood Public Safety Department (906-932-1234). It will be open this evening until 3:00 PM this afternoon, or longer if needed.

Hydrant flushing is continuing in the City today. Water discoloration is normal during this process. The photos shown above were taken last night. They show that the hydrant on the corner of Ayer and Suffolk Streets was flushed.

The next press release will occur later this morning.
