Another Accident Near Wal-Mart

IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP, MI - Sunday, January 11, 2009 - At 1:00 PM this afternoon two motorists were injured in a two car crash which occurred just east of Wal-Mart on U.S. 2. Both motorists were taken by ambulance to the Grand View Hospital. The two cars -- one an S.U.V. and the other a small pick up truck -- were traveling west when the crash occurred. The identities or the conditions of the motorists were not available.

The Country Club Road/U.S. 2 intersection has been a serious concern of many area residents since Wal-Mart opened. Attempts were made to have a traffic light installed at the intersection, but the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) refuses to allow one.

The State Police and the Gogebic County Sheriff's (GCSD) officers were on the scene tending to the crash and the injured parties. Also at the scene was an Ironwood Public Safety Department (IPSD) officer who was directing traffic at the corner of Country Club Road and U.S. 2.
