Water Will Soon Return to Jackson Road Residents

IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP, MI - Monday, January 19, 2009 - 4:05 PM - City of Ironwood water crews continued to work on the Jackson Road main break. There's an old rule of thumb that says, "If it can go wrong... it will!" That's just how the day went for these City workers. What should have been a relatively simple fix turned out to be a major pain. While digging out the 4" main, the crew discovered a 48" storm sewer lying directly over the leak. Workers in the pit were standing in knee-deep water and Jim Kolesar had to lay on his stomach in icy mud with his head shoved under a concrete pipe in an attempt to place the repair patch on the 4" water main.

Once the patch was securely attached, the crew had to leave to take care of some matters at the City Garage. The plan is to return to the site with fill sand and to open the valve to check for leaks. If the snow continues several of these gentlemen will be going out on the plow trucks at midnight.

The Chronicle will provide additional information as it becomes available.
