City Begins to Address Recent Citizen Complaints
IRONWOOD, MI - Thursday, July 16, 2009 - Yesterday and today, City employees have been working to secure the property at 632 McLeod. At Monday night's City Commission meeting Terri Maki, who owns the house next to the property, addressed the Commission with concerns that the house is a health and safety risk to the neighborhood. Last week, Maki submitted a letter to the editor to IronwoodInfo.com complaining about the condition of the house next to hers. The Chronicle investigated her complaint and confirmed that the outside of the building was littered with trash and the inside of the building was filled with decaying food, huge amounts of trash, and other filth. According to Scott Erickson, City employees will focus on securing the premises and cleaning up the outside of the building for now, and hopefully, after the next City Commission meeting, further action will be taken. At Monday night's meeting, Louise Demasi, owner of Pizza King Joe's, complained about two huge stacks of trash in the alley between an apartment building and Temperature Control Services in the "flats" area of town (Silver/Aurora Streets). She said the garbage was excessive and it was blowing all over the streets. Yesterday all of the garbage was removed.
