Hike Into Proposed Park During Festival Ironwood
IRONWOOD, MI - Monday, July 13, 2009 - Rick Semo of the Friends of Miners Memorial Heritage Park (MMHP) is leading two free hikes into the “caves area” during Festival Ironwood. The Friends of Miners Memorial Heritage Park is a new non-profit organization that is committed to creating, promoting and maintaining a "new” city park in what is locally referred to as “the caves area”. The organization would like to create paths for generally primitive hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. In addition, the Friends of MMHP plan on putting up informative signs along trails to tell visitors of the mining history within the park. Semo will lead hikers on a one hour hike leading to a pond created by the Aurora mine starting at 10:00 AM and then again at 4:00 PM on Saturday, July 18th. Interested hikers should meet at the Ironwood Schools’ Bus Garage on Ayer Street. Hikers should bring water and wear hiking boots. Stop by the Friends of MMHP’s booth at Festival Ironwood on Saturday or contact Monie at 932-3779 for more information. |
