Ironwood Township Man In Custody Following Accident

IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP, MI - Thursday, July 23, 2009 - A 23 year-old Ironwood Township man is in custody at the Gogebic County Jail, stemming from a 1:45 AM investigation received by 911. Initial information indicated a motor vehicle accident, with personal injuries, on Vanderhagen Road near Piilola Road, in the Township of Ironwood.

The Gogebic County Sheriff's Office preliminary investigation showed the vehicle to be a total loss, after entering the ditch sideways, rolling several times, becoming airborne, and finally striking a tree. The suspect was transported by Beacon Ambulance to the Grand View Hospital and was treated and released. The suspect was arrested and charged with motor vehicle theft, operating while intoxicated 2nd offense, and driving on a suspended license. The vehicle was taken from 121 East Coolidge Street in Ironwood. The suspect is sitting in jail awaiting arraignment on a $30,000 bond subject to 10%.

Assisting the Sheriff Department at the accident were the Michigan State Police, Beacon Ambulance, and the Ironwood Township Volunteer Fire Department.
